Shamanism and the Spirits of Nature

Led by: Nan Moss

From ancient times, shamans have worked with the spirits of nature for healing, survival, and knowledge. By learning from the plants and animals, from the rocks and mountains, from the winds and waters, and from the sun, moon, and stars, shamans helped their peoples live in harmony with the universe. In a world now out of balance, the way of the shaman can teach how again to respect nature, our Planet, and its inhabitants at a deep spiritual level. As our ancestors everywhere once knew, our survival depends on the survival of the other species. By working together intensively through shamanic journeys and other spiritual experiences, we will dedicate ourselves to working in both nonordinary and ordinary reality to restore and maintain a living Planet.

Prerequisite: the FSS Basic Workshop, The Way of the Shaman, with an authorized FSS Faculty Member.

Weather Shamanism – Levels 1 & 2

LEVEL I: INTRODUCTION TO WEATHER SHAMANISM
A Shamanic Path of Discovery, Personal Growth, Meaning of Life and Global Healing.

A form of spiritual ecology – a call to those who care about where our world may be heading, and who sincerely wish to safeguard the health of our planet.

A look at our culture’s relationship with weather – including our own – and a critical opportunity to expand our world-view beyond the confines of our mainstream perspectives.

An invitation to resurrect the venerable and respected task of the shaman to ensure good relations among the living communities of humans, beings of nature, and the local spirits of our home realm, all my relations.

May we whisper it to the winds.

LEVEL II: WEATHER IN THE MIDDLE WORLD

A deepening of our spiritual understanding of the Middle World and our relationship with the spirits of weather. We begin to explore the connection between spirit and form, the whirlwind of chaos and order, and where we fit into that dance of cocreation. For this we need to know more about ourselves, and the True Human Being within us.

In Level II our aim is to approach weather shamanism with a high degree of awareness. This quality of deep attention, and full-embodied respect is essential for relating with Middle World spirits and powers.

It is the “knowing” path of direct experience.

The Way of the Shaman®: The Shamanic Journey, Power and Healing (FSS Basic Workshop)

Led by: Nan Moss

Originated by Michael Harner, this is the basic workshop of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and is the prerequisite for all Foundation workshops and training courses.

During this experiential workshop, participants are introduced to core shamanism, the universal and near-universal basic methods of the shaman to enter non-ordinary reality for problem solving, well-being, and healing.Particular emphasis is put on the classic shamanic journey, one of the most remarkable visionary methods used by humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and dream.

Participants are initiated into shamanic journeying, aided by drumming and movement techniques for experiencing the shamanic state of consciousness and for awakening dormant spiritual abilities and connections with Nature. Practice includes comparisons by participants of their discoveries in shamanic journeys as well as work on personal problem solving. They are also provided with methods for journeying to discover and study with their own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary reality, a classic step in shamanic practice. Participants learn how the journey is utilized to restore spiritual power and health, and how shamanism can be applied in contemporary daily life to help heal oneself, others, and the Planet.
